End of season 2022

We had an absolutely fantastic season in Philadelphia. It’s hard to believe it is the end of the season, but never the less it is upon us.

Our youth board hosted our annual Liam Hegarty Liberty Bell Championships July 16-17th in Abington Pennsylvania.

With over 180 teams between boys and girls football, hurling and camogie it was a jammed packed event.

A great success for the city of brotherly love once again. Looking forward to this annual event.

Congratulations to the youth board and all teams involved on a successful event.

Our youth teams, Delaware County Gaels and Glenside Gaelic made their way to Chicago, Illinois for the 2022 Continental Youth Championships. With a pretty considerable hiatus from CYC’s our children and families we’re anxious to get back to playing in some competitive games.

Our adult finals were held on August 7th at our field in Limerick.

The Junior mens final was between Young Irelands and Delco Gaels. Delco Gaels defeated the Young Irelands in a riveting game of football. Final Score: Young Irelands 1-07 to Delco Gaels 3-20.

The ladies were up next, the 2021 North American champions, the Notre Dames went head to head with the ladies of the Delaware County Gaels. In an absolute nail bitter of a game and some of the best ladies football seen in the city in ages. The Notre Dames came out on top after a top notch battle on the pitch.

Full time score- Notre Dames 1-13 Gaels 2-08

Always the highlight of the season is the men’s senior match, it was held between Donegal v Young Irelands. This day always brings great crowds to the field. The tone was set of with our piper and both senior teams being escorted onto the field by our youth players, a huge honor to say the least.

Our national anthems of Ireland and USA were sang by Shannon Daly. Shannon is 16 and plays football for the Delaware County Gaels and camogie for Na Toraidhe. It was a pleasure to have a very involved player partake in our traditions.

The Senior game was an exhilarating display of passion, aggression and pure talent. The Young Irelands defeated Donegal in the end of a an extremely tight game. Final score: Young Irelands 3-16 to Donegal 1-18.

Many thank you‘s to all involved in making this year an extremely successful one, special thanks to the teams, management, supporters, referees, linemen, umpires, volunteers and the Philly board.
